Enjoying Your Summer Break In The Region of Rottal-Inn. What To Do and Where To Go? The surging infected cases of covid19 around the world together with governmental travel warnings and flight restrictions have been stopping people from pursuing their casual holiday travel.
This summer vacation, thus, turns out to be somewhat tedious and humdrum for many people. For international students, whose soul always yearns to explore and experience, might find themselves at odds dealing with this unusual 2020 summer break. Same as many others of my peers, the pandemic stops me from reuniting with my family. It also makes me understand that unnecessary travel might be dangerous and perilously risky taking into account how the deadly disease is still around the corner. Nonetheless, there are still many other interesting things to do to keep our summer fresh, amusing and exhilarating. If you are one of those students who decided to spend their two-month holiday staying in Rottal-Inn like me, you should not miss to check out the region’s exclusive collection of alluring museums and exhibition venues, spectacular natural highlights and intriguing leisure activities. All of them might just be perfect for your daytime excursion under the sunny weather.
1. Visiting the Town Hall, “Glass House” and Church of St. Simon and Judas
The town hall of Pfarrkirchen displays a wide selection of ancient craftsmanship and objects representing the rural life in Pfarrkirchen as well as the middle of the region of Rottal-Inn. The museum changes its exhibitions on cultural-historical and artistic themes on a regular basis, creating an eye-catching presentation of fine arts for numerous audiences. Students who enjoy learning about history and local culture should definitely visit this place once they have the chance. Pfarrkirchen’s “Glass House” (locals call it “Glasbau”) located at Ringstrasse is offering various cultural programmes including readings, theatre performances, unique cultural demonstrations and folk live music. Different participants and invited artists are displaying their creative work from time to time. If you want to take a break from stressful exams and immerse your soul in contemporary imagination and inspiration, the “Glass House” is indeed the right stop for you! Among the oldest places in Pfarrkirchen must be the church of St. Simon and Judas Thaddäus. Originally architected in the Romanesque style then updated with Gothic design, the church was filled with more than 1,700 works of arts of Mr. Reiffenstuel. Prayers and arts? Why not have both?!
2. Exploring Bürgerwald Eggenfelden
If you are a person with wanderlust and you are looking for something close to unspoilt nature, where you can inhale the fresh scent of the air or feel the gentleness of the wind whispering and swaying the trees, why not take a walk in the dense jungle of Eggenfelden’s Bürgerwald? Quickly jump on a train heading to Mühldorf (Oberbayern), it will only take you around 10 minutes to reach Eggenfelden from Pfarrkirchen. From there, you can easily reach the Bürgerwald by walk. For decades, the Bürgerwald (or Forest of the Citizens) has been an indispensable recreational area for the residents of Eggenfelden. It is not only a popular place for jogging or walking, but it is also a popular place for birdwatching and nature-exploration. In 2018, the city has issued an innovative programme for visitors to experience the beauty of the forest both in traditional and in modern ways with the support of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. By using some specially designed AR devices, you can walk around the forest, studying and observing the livelihood of rare animals while admiring the charm of Mother Nature in a tour led by a virtual fox. Grab your group of buddies and start your expedition!
3. Taking balloon flights, racing horses, bowling and so much more!
Have you ever enjoyed the sublime feeling of a balloon ride? Had your heart racing with thrills while racing the horse? Or dared a tandem jump? Holiday excitement and fun are not far away from your doorstep! Do not worry if you cannot travel far this summer. The region of Rottal-Inn still has many mind-blowing adventures waiting for you. Start at Voglsam for a balloon flight, you can either go alone or in a group of up to five people. The price ranges from € 150 to € 180 each. While the blue sky is not far above your head and the whole city suddenly becomes miniature, Ballonfahrt Voglsam with over 25 years of experience in hosting balloon flights, will give you the experience of a lifetime. Breath-taking views of Pfarrkirchen, Eggenfelden and Voglsam can be captured within the perk of your eye!
If you are afraid of heights, then why not opt-in for some horse racings and bowling? Resided just within the center of Pfarrkirchen, you can find Bavaria’s oldest Harness Racing Trace, where horse races have been held since 1894. There is a huge race known as “Pfingstrennen” that takes place every Whitsuntide – around 40 days after Easter. Dining out with Mexican food at the city centre’s beautiful beer garden and heading out for a fun bowling night at Bahnweg street with your close squad might also be a good idea to chill off the summer heat.
